Rockets guard Luther Head won't get a chance to participate in Saturday's Three-Point Shootout after failing to receive an invitation to the event.
No matter.
He still managed to put on a shooting clinic in Las Vegas.
The Rockets guard
swished a trio of three-pointers to help pace the Sophomores to a 155-114 victory Friday night over the Rookies in the T-Mobile Rookie Challenge and Youth Jam at UNLV's Thomas & Mack Center.
Head,
who made four of five attempts from the beyond the arc, netted 15 points as the Sophomores established a new scoring record in the event.
New York's David Lee, who scored 30 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, was the MVP of the opening event of the NBA's All-Star weekend.
Head scored 10 of his 16 points in the second half, netting a pair of three pointers in the first half. He capped off his night by catching an alley-oop pass from Charlotte guard Raymond Felton and throwing the dunk down with his back to the bucket.
