The Tulsa 66ers and Routie the Roadrunner recently participated in the Operation Aware’s 10th Annual Red Ribbon Run on Riverside Drive in Tulsa. Operation Aware, whose annual race event is the biggest Red Ribbon Run event in the state, aims at teaching children to choose a lifestyle free of drugs, tobacco and alcohol.
Hundreds of students from 180 local elementary, middle, and high schools braved the cool early morning temperatures to run for a cause, and the 66ers were proud to be a part of such an important message. Routie the Roadrunner ran in both the five-kilometer race as well as the one-mile fun run.
Operation Aware is an award-winning non-profit organization that equips youth, through prevention education, with the knowledge and skills to make positive life choices. Founded in 1979, the program currently serves around 20,000 students every academic year across Northeast Oklahoma.
