The Bakersfield Jam is proud to team up with the Kern County Firefighters to bring you the following Public Safety Messages.

SEPTEMBER 2010
September is National Preparedness Month. Kern County Firefighters would like you to take some time to make sure that you and your family are prepared for a disaster. Make sure that you have enough food, water, and medications for seven days. Also have a plan for your family.

This year Kern County Firefighters Local 1301 teamed up with other organizations to help educate and prepare the citizens of Kern County in the event that a major disaster happened. The end product was KC Prepared. After months of gathering information the group was able to compile a 24 page information packet and distribute it throughout the County by various means. Also www.kcprepared.com was established and would provide a web link of the same material that was distributed. Local 1301 is a proud partner and encougares you to educate yourself on the different local resources in the area and how to keep you and your family safe at all times.

AUGUST 2010
If you live in a rural area help the Kern County Firefighters protect your home from wild fires. Clear all dead vegetation with in a hundred feet of your home or out buildings.

JULY 2010
Fireworks safety:
* Use only state approved "Safe and Sane" fireworks.
* Don't modify or throw fireworks.
* Never leave children unattended while using fireworks.
* Always have an extinguisher or water hose on hand.
* Make sure all fireworks are fully extinguished before throwing away.

JUNE 2010
Never leave children unattended while swimming.

Please, Don't Drink and Drive.

Smoking is one of the leading causes of fire deaths in the United States. If you must smoke, never smoke indoors and always make sure your cigarette is put out when you’re finished.

MARCH 2010
Please remember, no texting while driving, and only use your cell phone with a hands free device.
